2012 PRSSA National Board Elections

The PRSSA Constitution stipulates that elections will occur between the second and third weeks of May. This year's elections will happen on May 18, 2012.
We now once again, announce the process for the 2012 Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association National Board Elections. We can now announce that this year’s elections will be held on May 18, 2012, online through our election portal.
As before, our will be conducting the process, beginning with the first step: the registration of the voters. In the coming days we will be announcing the name of the Chair of the Elections Committee. Read the rest of this entry »

"Casi Criminales" las expresiones de Cox Alomar

SAN JUAN, PR: La Asociación de Estudiantes Estadistas de Puerto Rico (PRSSA por sus siglas en Inglés), reaccionó a la nueva postura a favor de un ELA no territorial por parte del candidato a Comisionado Residente por el Partido Popular Democrático, Rafael Cox Alomar, caracterizándolas como fraudulentas y casi criminales.“Es lamentable que un profesional de la práctica legal con la preparación de Cox Alomar decida engañar al pueblo de Puerto Rico con el fraude que representa el ELA no territorial,” indicó Eduardo Soto, presidente de PRSSA. “Existe tanto precedente legal que desacredita la opción del ELA ‘soberano’ o ‘no territorial’ que las expresiones del licenciado son casi criminales.”
“En sus recientes expresiones, el candidato para la Comisaría en Washington por el PPD nos ha dejado saber de que no solo va indeciso sobre cuál discurso y mensaje demagógico utilizará en torno al estatus, sino que también ha mostrado su ignorancia sobre el precedente legal y conocimiento en la ley, incluyendo los diversos informes congresionales, los Casos Insulares e informes de tres grupos de trabajos de Casa Blanca. Organizaciones Estadistas se unen por el Voto Ausente

SAN JUAN, PR – La Asociación de Estudiantes Estadistas de Puerto Rico (PRSSA, en inglés) anunció su apoyo al movimiento Estadistas Unidos, que busca consolidar el voto de estudiantes estadistas en universidades fuera de la Isla. Con su campaña “Plebiscito 2012: Son tus motivos,” la membresía de PRSSA colaborará con el nuevo movimiento para asegurar una victoria estadista en el plebiscito de status.

Estudiantes Estadistas defienden Voto de sobre un millón de Puertorriqueños

SAN JUAN, PR: La Asociación de Estudiantes Estadistas de Puerto Rico (PRSSA por sus siglas en Inglés), anunció el lanzamiento de su campaña “Plebiscito 2012: Son tus motivos”. La campaña se enfocará en defender el voto de sobre 1 millón de jóvenes puertorriqueños que aún no han votado por su preferencia de status. Según el Censo, más de un millón de jóvenes puertorriqueños que no pudieron votar en el plebiscito de 1998 podrán participar en el plebiscito pautado para el próximo año.

2011 PRSSA Elections
The PRSSA Constitution stipulates that elections will occur between the second and third weeks of May. The official voting days will be announced soon.
It is with great pride that we announce the continuation of one of our greatest traditions: the election of a new national board.
Guiding us through this process will be the who’s responsibilities will include the gathering of all nominations, the attesting to the acquiescence of the nominated, and the supervisors of the elections. This year’s Elections Committee will be chaired by PRSSA Executive Director Fernando Sepulveda. We will soon unveil the names of the remaining members that will compose the Elections Committee.
This year, we have a new process in place to facilitate the voting process and ensure a clean, safe and secure election. Members of the PRSSA will have to register in order to vote in the 2011 National Board Elections. All you need to do is to fill out the form, and as long as you are a current student in a high school or university, you will be eligible to vote. As election day approaches, registered voters will receive an email prior to the vote with the instructions and appropriate information.

PRSSA Denuncia a Alejandro Garcia Padilla por su Ambigüedad en torno al Status

SAN JUAN, PR: La Asociación de Estudiantes Estadistas de Puerto Rico, (PRSSA por sus siglas en Inglés), denunció hoy al candidato a la gobernación del Partido Popular Democrático Alejandro García Padilla por la ambigüedad de su posición en torno al status de Puerto Rico.
“Con su tendencia a no definir su posición, en cuanto a si prefiere el status quo, o si prefiere una república asociada, García Padilla demostró que no es confiable para manejar el tema del status” – indicó Eduardo Soto, Presidente de la Asociación. “Se ve claramente que está tratando de complacer a todo el mundo, para al final, no cumplir con nadie. PRSSA responde a intentos de justificación de ataque contra la Rectora Ana Guadalupe

SAN JUAN, PR: La Asociación de Estudiantes Estadistas de Puerto Rico, (PRSSA por sus siglas en Inglés), respondió a comunicados por diferentes sectores del movimiento huelguista en la Universidad de Puerto Rico en los cuales se intenta justificar los actos de agresión contra la rectora del Recinto de Rio Piedras, Ana Guadalupe.
“No hay razón alguna que justifique lo que ocurrió en el recinto esta semana, y el hecho de que ahora veamos a grupos como el Comité de Acción de Humanidades intentando justificar los hechos por sus diferencias de opinión con la rectora representa la más grande contradicción que se haya visto por parte de este movimiento” expresó Jeannette Ortiz, Secretaria del capítulo de la UPR-Río Piedras de la organización. 2011 PRSSA Elections Changes
New Registration Form
The National Board of the Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association announced today that they are currently working on a revamp of the elections process. In order to simplify the process, looking for greater efficiency, President Eduardo Soto announced the plan to implement voter registration forms into the process. This means that to vote in the elections, PRSSA members would have to register before every election.
The process will be handled by the , who would be in charge of the voter list. This voter list would be discarded after every election and regenerated for a new election. Read the rest of this entry »

Senadores Bingaman y Murkowski dicen que Puerto Rico tiene “cuatro opciones de status”

WASHINGTON – En una carta dirigida al presidente Barack Obama, los líderes del Comité de Energía y Recursos Naturales del Senado estadounidense han afirmado que el Gobierno federal debe hacer claro que Puerto Rico tiene cuatro opciones de cara a su futuro político: el status actual, la independencia, la libre asociación y la estadidad.
El demócrata Jeff Bingaman (Nuevo México) y la republicana Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), que engavetaron el proyecto de status del comisionado residente Pedro Pierluisi, hicieron su afirmación en momentos en que se espera por el informe del grupo interagencial de la Casa Blanca sobre Puerto Rico.
