Executive Director Fernando Sepulveda
Fernando L. Sepúlveda Irizarry was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico on August 11,1983 and raised in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico. He attended the Immaculate Conception Academy, graduating with high honors in 2001 earning the National Honor Society Graduation Award. Later, he attended the University of Puerto Rico - Mayagüez Campus, obtaining his Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in Biology in 2005. While an undergraduate, Sepúlveda was Vice-President of the Pro-Statehood Students Organization “Universitarios Estadistas en Acción”. He was also inducted into the Beta Beta Beta Biology honorary society and was Chairman of the Student’s Council Health and Environment committee. In 2005, at age 21, Sepúlveda enrolled at the University of Puerto Rico’s School of Medicine, completing his Medical Doctor degree in 2010. While in Med School, he was Co-Captain of his class’s volleyball team, a member of the School’s Strategic Planning Committee, President of the Student Council, Director of Governmental Affairs and Public Policy as well as founding member of the Puerto Rico Medical Students Association. During this time organized Healthcare Policy Forums and lobbied on the importance of improving medical education on the island. Fernando has been a member of PRSSA since 2007 when he became Chapter President of the University of Puerto Rico-Medical Sciences Campus, where he organized forums highlighting disparities in healthcare federal funding assigned to Puerto Rico when compared to the states. On 2009 he was appointed Puerto Rico State Director where he oversaw member recruitment efforts and the creation of new chapters. On 2010 the National Board named him Executive Director of the association. |
