Luis Fortuño

Luis G. Fortuño was born October 31, 1960, in Santurce Puerto Rico. He is the current Governor of Puerto Rico, after being elected by a landslide in the November 4, 2008 General Elections in Puerto Rico. While a student at Tulane University, together with Kenneth McClintock, he founded the Puerto Rico Statehood Students Association, and then became its president from 1980 till 1981.

Fortuño graduated from Colegio Marista in 1978. He completed undergraduate studies in Tulane University, and got his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia in 1985.

Luis Fortuño has practiced law in the private sector, worked as the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, and as Secretary of Economic Development under Pedro Rossello’s administration. He also served as Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner in Congress since 2005.
